Legal Aid, Explained Simply
If you can't afford a lawyer, you may be able to get Legal Aid for your family law matter. We're registered Legal Aid providers, and we'll help you work out whether it could be an option for you.
Could You Be Eligible?
Legal Aid isn't based on income alone. Your income, assets, dependent children, your partner's finances (if applicable), and your particular case can all be taken into account.
You don't need to work all of that out yourself. Talk to us and we'll help you understand whether Legal Aid may be available for your situation.
If you're going ahead with us and need Legal Aid, we'll prepare the application and paperwork for you. You provide the information we need, we'll put it together, and you just need to check it and sign.

What is Legal Aid?
Legal Aid is government funding to help people who can't afford a lawyer. It is considered a loan, and depending on your circumstances, you may have to repay some or all of it.
Does Malone Law do Legal Aid for family law matters?
Yes. We're an approved Legal Aid provider for family law matters in Taranaki.
Do I have to pay anything to apply?
No. When you work with us, we prepare and submit your Legal Aid application for you. You provide the information we need, then check and sign the application before we send it.
What do I need to provide to apply?
We'll let you know exactly what we need. Generally, you'll need information about your income, savings, assets, debts and dependants, along with any documents relating to your matter. You'll also need proof of your income if you are currently employed. Don't worry if you're not sure what to provide - we'll talk you through it.
Will I have to pay Legal Aid back?
Legal Aid is considered a loan, and you may have to repay some or all of it. This depends on things such as your income, assets and the circumstances of your case. We'll explain what this could mean for you when we discuss Legal Aid.
